Shamrock Series musings

So, what are your thoughts on the Shamrock Series jerseys this year? I get it, playing in Yankee Stadium is pretty sweet, but the jury is out on how the pinstripe pants are going to play in person and on TV. I do LOVE the helmets, even though the traditional gold will take a hiatus this weekend. Seriously though, the game location and the uniforms are just semantics. The larger storyline is this: the Irish are 10-0, #3 in the nation, and control their own destiny. Win, and Notre Dame will be in the college football playoffs. Lose, and play in a bowl that no one cares about. Time to finish the season LIKE A CHAMPION...

I like the Irish this November because they are physically and mentally healthy, have a championship caliber defense, and with Ian Book at quarterback and Dexter Williams at running back the offense has taken a step forward. Big hurdle this weekend with the Syracuse Orange rolling into New York with an 8-2 record, and likely the only quarterback that Notre Dame has seen this year that could get hot enough to beat the Irish. I will be interested to see what Clark Lea has dialed up for Orange QB Eric Dungey. Let the front four go to work and play coverage? Or dial up second and third level blitzes? My guess is that Lea lets the front four do what they’ve done all year, and if it doesn’t work, let Te’von Coney and Alohi Gilman bring some heat. Offensively, score. the. ball. If Dungey does get hot, this could be a shootout. Ole Book better be locked in, after a week off to nurse an injury, but Brandon WImbush better ready because he is one weird hit to the ribs away.

My heart (and gut) are with the Irish this weekend. I think the magic continues and Notre Dame moves to 11-0 with a 42-31 win. Mind you, I was 7 points off a perfect prediction a week ago, so take this to the bank. Only joking. If the Irish win, it will set up a season finale against hated rival USC. How sweet would it be to move to 12-0 in the Coliseum? GO IRISH!
